PARKED caravans dubbed an “eyesore” could be on their way soon after they were issued with fixed penalty notices.

A number of parked caravans, which were seen at the roadside in Devonshire Road, Barrow, have attracted anger from residents.

Councillor Bill McEwan, who represents Ormsgill on Barrow Borough Council, had described the caravans as an “eyesore” and said he had been contacted about the matter.

He hopes that now the fixed penalty notices have been placed on the caravans, the process of removing them from the road will be under way.

He said: “It looks like the issue has been taken seriously.

“It is sending out a really big message and I think the people who own these caravans will start to take note.”

The issue was raised by an unnamed resident in the area who contacted the Evening Mail.

They had said: “I think it’s really disrespectful and unsightly to have them all so close to the entrance to our cemetery.

“The town hall have told me themselves they have had lots of complaints.”

According to reports, the number of caravans being parked on the road had increased in the last year, with sometimes as many as eight of them being parked on the road that is part of the approach to the nearby cemetery.

It is still not known who the caravans belong to or who has parked them there.

Neither the police or Cumbria County Council have been able to confirm that they have issued the penalty notices.
