MORE than three quarters of voters polled online by the Evening Mail don't believe gender-neutral toilets should be introduced in schools.
In an article in today's Times, a leading teacher said that schools should consider introducing unsegregated gender-neutral toilets to make transgender pupils feel more comfortable.
Julia Neal, chair of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers' equality and diversity committee, said that changing rooms, toilets and uniforms were "very gender specific", the Times reports today.
Some 80 per cent of readers polled online say schools shouldn't have gender-neutral toilets.
Over on Facebook, Abigail Green said her niece's school in Swansea had gender-neutral toilets. We asked Abigail if the toilets helped anyone, or caused any issues.
She replied: "Yes she said most the girls wouldn't go in on their own especially if there was boys in. She said they didn't respect the toilets any more than before when they had single sex toilets. Oh and lads and lasses would go in cubicles together and do things they shouldn't be."
Others pointed out it could encourage bullying while some suggested 'unisex toilets' already exist in the form of disabled facilities.
