LIFEBOAT crew, police, firefighters and paramedics were called out after a woman was threatening to commit suicide in Barrow.

Emergency services were called out to the area near to the Dock Museum in Barrow at around 6pm last night.

Volunteer crew from the RNLI's Barrow station said they launched their inshore lifeboat to assist the emergency services on the east side of Walney Channel. Firefighters from Barrow also attended.

The information received was that a despondent female was on the shoreline north of Jubilee Bridge, near the Dock Museum, and that she required assistance to bring her to safety.

The inshore lifeboat crew were paged and the Vision of Tamworth was launched at 6.22pm with Ben Jackson at the helm, assisted by two crew. A further nine crew members responded to the call-out and attended the Lifeboat station in case they were needed.

Furness Coastguard was also tasked but on arrival, was not needed.

The woman was safely brought back from the dockside.

Last night's rescue is the third regarding an attempted suicide at the same location in the last two weeks.

On January 5, emergency services were called to the Dock Museum at 1.30am to assist a woman who was reportedly threatening to commit suicide. She was later handed over to paramedics and taken to Furness General Hospital.

Then five days later, a woman was threatening to jump into Walney Channel from the dockside by the Dock Museum.

Fire crews, police and paramedics also attended that incident and the woman was eventually talked down after an hour.
