COMIC Eddie Izzard encouraged a student audience to ‘shoot for the stars’ and register to vote in the EU Referendum, when he played his first Barrow gig today.

The comedian and marathon man was at Barrow Sixth Form College after students invited him via Twitter.

The popular figure brought his Stand Up for Europe campaign to the intimate lecture theatre setting and put forward his argument for remaining in the EU.

The ‘radical moderate’ urged students to get registered by June 7 and vote on June 23.

He said: “We are British, let’s stand and fight not run and hide.”

The debate covered the economy, security, humanity, immigration, low cost flights, roaming charges and even flags and canteens.

This evening the comedian plays his Force Majeure show at The Beggar’s Theatre, in Millom, in three languages - English, French and German.
