EASTER has always been a colourful time in the Furness calendar.

From egg rolling to school competitions, there's been plenty going on over the years, while many traditions are alive and thriving in 2017.

Easter Monday saw the continuation of Furness Morris Dancers' pasche egg play, which has been performed by the group for 52 years since 1965.

The venue for one of their stops this year was Ford Park, which saw families from across the area flock to take part in egg rolling down Hoad once again.

We have dipped into our archives and selected some Easter pictures from past events, including morris men, this time at Dalton Castle in 1988.

Of course, an egg can only roll once it has been decorated, and there have been plenty of competitions from years gone by. From dogs to ducklings, eggs can truly be turned into anything by a child's imagination.

Yet eggs aren't just for rolling, with Dalton St Mary's Church hosting a throwing contest back in 1993 and, in the same year, we held our own Evening Mail egg hunt.

It's not just eggs that get a makeover, with St Peter's School in Ireleth on the lookout for unique Easter bonnets in 1994.
