DETECTIVES have said a search will be conducted at Ormsgill Reservoir after an individual matching the description of missing man Chris Dixon was reportedly dropped off by a taxi.

Chris Dixon, who is studying engineering at college, is understood to have mental health issues and police are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

His family say they understand his bank card was last used to withdraw £10 from the cash machine at the Co-op in Island Road on Barrow Island.

Detectives are going through the process of accessing Mr Dixon's bank and phone records now he has been classed as a high-risk missing person given the length of time since he was last seen.

The 32-year-old was last seen at around 7.45am on Tuesday October 24, in Abbey Road, near to the junction of Cheltenham Street and Park Drive.

He is described as white and around 5ft 7ins tall. He has short, dark brown hair and a tribal tattoo on the top of his right arm, and another across the back of his shoulders.

He was last seen wearing a black Adidas tracksuit top with grey stripes and black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with grey stripes. He also had with him a dark grey North Face jacket with orange tags.

In a statement released to The Mail today, detectives said: "Barrow police are continuing to make inquiries to trace Christopher Mark Dixon, aged 32, whose last contact with his family was on October 23 2017.

"A search is planned in the vicinity of Ormsgill Reservoir, in response to an inquiry identifying a male of similar description being dropped off by taxi in that area several days ago.

"The search will not involve the deployment of the underwater search team at this stage.

"The family are being updated on a daily basis as to the progress of the investigation."

Friends and family members have already carried out their own search of the docks in Barrow and have been distributing leaflets across the town.

Anyone who has information about Mr Dixon's whereabouts is urged to call police on 101.
