A DRUNK Barrow mum kicked a police officer in the windpipe as she tried to undress her in the cells.

Kelly Wilson appeared before Furness Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Mr Lee Dacre explained that on June 2 police were called out to a report that a woman was causing a nuisance in a house. They found the defendant on the corner of Salthouse Road and Vulcan Road, Barrow.

He said: “They tried to take her to her own house as she was unsteady on her feet. She said she didn’t want to. Police didn’t feel happy leaving her to make her own way for her own safety but she became abusive and was arrested.

“In the custody unit she refused to put her custody clothes on and began kicking out. She went to bite the police officer and was warned not to and she kicked out hitting the officer in her neck and then again in her shoulder. She was kicking out violently throughout. The officer was left with reddening to the neck and a foot shaped mark to her shoulder.”

Wilson, aged 26, of Marsh Street, Barrow, admitted being drunk and disorderly and two police assaults.

Mr Trystan Roberts, defending, said: “The following days she did show remorse and asked to apologise to the female officers. She has clearly shown regret and remorse for her actions.

“She had had a lovely day with her friend and her three children at the Dock Museum. When they returned they decided to have a coupe of drinks but ended up drinking a lot more.

“She became morose and upset as a result and left the house. She became upset at the thought of being put in a cell.

“In the cell she didn’t want her clothing removed and kicked out because she was scared.”

Magistrates gave her a three-month community order and told her to pay £100 in compensation to the officer. She was also told to pay a £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
