A DRUNK Barrow man throttled his partner's son when he returned home in a foul mood after playing darts in the pub.

Scott Anthony Tippett, of Chester Place, Barrow, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and admitted assault by beating.

Prosecutor Mr Lee Dacre explained how events kicked off on July 23 at the home he shared with his girlfriend and her son Daniel Wilson.

He said: "It was 9.15pm and the victim in this case is the son of the defendant's girlfriend. He was at home when the defendant returned from the pub. He was stood in the doorway mumbling to himself and appeared to be in a bad mood."

Mr Dacre said Tippett began swearing at him and calling him names, telling him to leave the house in Chester Place.

The prosecutor added: "The victim turned to him and told him to stop taking his temper out on everyone else, as usual. The defendant then grabbed him around the neck and began to throttle him. He managed to escape but he was again grabbed outside by one hand around his neck. He initially told the police he had grabbed his T-shirt but later conceded that he had grabbed him around the neck.

"The victim said he kept squeezing really hard and it hurt and he could also feel the heat rising in his face as he was being choked."

Mr Trystan Roberts, defending, said: "He had been out that evening and had had something to drink and played darts. He admits he was in a bad mood when he returned. He said he got into an argument with his partner's son because he was mouthing off and that there had been some difficulties in their relationship.

"He is a full-time carer for his partner who has rheumatoid arthritis.

"Mr Wilson has since moved out."

Tippett, 34, was given an eight-week curfew between 7pm and 7am.

Magistrates also told him to pay £85 court costs and £50 in compensation to his victim. He must also pay a £55 victim surcharge.
