A FURNESS drug dealer has been jailed for more than two years for his role in supplying heroin.

Callum Monk, 28, of Ramsden Street, Barrow, was sentenced to 32 months at Preston Crown Court today after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Monk was arrested as part of a police operation, codenamed 'Quadrant' which over the course of 12 days saw £6,000 worth of drugs seized from the streets of south Cumbria.

During the search of Monk’s home by drugs officers, a plastic Kinder-egg type container was found, containing 17 individual deals of heroin. The drugs were estimated at a street value of £280.

Police also found further items consistent with drugs supply, such as a set of electronic scales, an empty Kinder-egg type container, and a number of pieces of plastic such as those used to create street deals.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: “When interviewed, Monk claimed that much of his heroin was for personal use. However, our investigation showed that he had been involved in the supply of the drug in Barrow. I am pleased that he pleaded guilty to the crime he committed and that today he has been punished for it.

“We will continue to conduct such warrants as part of proactive police operations, but also as part of our day-to-day effort to take these criminals off our streets. Anyone involved in the supply of drugs should see this as yet another warning that we will find you and ensure you are brought before the courts.”

Operation Quadrant formed part of a larger crackdown by police in the county, targeting drug criminals, many of whom were ferrying drugs from outside the area, particularly from Manchester and Liverpool.

Anyone with information about the supply of drugs can contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
