THE "amazing" Furness community has been thanked for fulfilling the dream wedding wish of a brave Barrow woman with incurable cancer.

Janice Anderson, 42, will marry her partner of 12 years, Mike Fay, 50, thanks to generous businesses and individuals who have donated a dream wedding package worth around £17,000.

It was all made possible through a Facebook appeal and arrangements by Miss Anderson's best friends, Adele Dean and Wendy Smith.

The three friends, of Barrow, who have all undergone treatment for cancer, were discussing bucket lists. Miss Anderson's only wish was to wed her partner, something they had not been in a financial position to do.

Mrs Dean posted on Facebook looking for fundraising ideas to try and organise a "nice wedding" for her friend. She explained that despite being terribly ill battling Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Miss Anderson had been part of the Lookin' Good Feelin' Great group that raised £20,000 for Furness General Hospital oncology department and Cancer Research UK,  and she never missed an event.

Within a week people had offered everything needed for a big day and even a short break honeymoon. The first offer came from Victoria Barber-Bolam who offered her Clarence House Country Hotel, in Dalton, to be the wedding ceremony venue with a wedding breakfast for 40 guests. Barrow Golf Club donated the evening reception venue.

The wedding will take place on Saturday September 24, a couple of weeks after Miss Anderson is due to finish six months of intensive chemotherapy at FGH.

An amazed Miss Anderson said: "The one thing on my bucket list was to marry Mike and within a day I saw a Facebook post from Adele and she was inundated with offers.

"I was overwhelmed and I still can't believe it. We are so grateful and excited. I want to thank everyone for this. The community spirit is amazing in Barrow and Furness.

"It will be a dream wedding. Me and Mike are overjoyed. We didn't think we would ever be able to get married.  It it surreal.

"I'm absolutely over the moon to be getting married at Clarence House.

I didn't think I'd ever have a stylish wedding."

The bride-to-be, who is originally from Glasgow, said: "Adele and Wendy are my best friends, it's amazing what they are doing for me, there is not enough words of thank them."

The couple have six grown up children and two grandchildren between them.

Mrs Dean, 51, who met Miss Anderson while she was being treatment for breast cancer, said: "Within a week we had everything we need for a wedding. It's incredible."

Mrs Smith, 52,  said: "We are all so overwhelmed. Barrow people are brilliant.

"Janice never moans, she is more concerned with how her friends are feeling."

Mrs Barber-Bolam, managing director of Clarence House Country Hotel, said she wanted to give a glimmer of happiness to someone who has been through hell.

She said: "I read the post and I know how cancer can disable families and put them in a void of the unknown. I know how terrible that is because I have lost my dad and sister to cancer.

"I am in a position to make someone's wish come true and if I can do that I will."

The public also helped to raise £1,000 for any wedding items. Donated wedding dresses and bridesmaid gowns will be donated to the Gift of a Wedding charity for terminally ill brides.
