A WARNING has been issued to dog owners after one reportedly died after ingesting rat poison in Barrow Park.

Alison Cort issued to warning on social media website Facebook yesterday after her mum's dog is understood to have died.

Mrs Cort said the dog had died after consuming rat poison in Barrow Park. Her post has been shared hundreds of times as other dog owners seek to alert others to the danger.

She wrote: "Dog owners beware. There is rat poison in Barrow Park.

"Our family dog has died from being poisoned by it."

It is not yet known if the poison had been put down maliciously or in a genuine attempt to tackle any issue with the vermin in the park.

The Evening Mail is contacting Barrow Borough Council for more information.
