A SUPPORT service for people worried about type 2 diabetes has been set up in Barrow town centre for one day only as part of a national roadshow.

A van is parked in Forum Square this afternoon to allow shoppers to seek lifestyle advice and find out if they are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Stuart Vaughan, who is the Volunteer Development Manager of Diabetes UK for the north-west, said: "If people would like to know whether they are developing diabetes then please pop in and have a chat with us.

"We are only here for one day so please make the most of the advice that we can offer."

Type 2 diabetes develops when the body can still make some insulin, but not enough, or when the insulin that is produced does not work properly.

Some of the early warning signs include being thirsty a lot of the time, tiredness and blurred eyesight.

More support for type 2 diabetes is available in Millom, where a woman recently launched a support group after finding out that 10 per cent of the town’s population suffer from the condition.
