A GROUP of Barrow bobbies are swapping their truncheons for walking shoes as they get ready to take part in a charity walk.

The 32 people, including police officers, civilian staff and friends, will be walking the K2B and C2B tomorrow.

PC Dave Edwards will be running the 40-plus miles for the seventh time this year and will be awarded a china cup for his efforts.

The 47-year-old Walney officer only took up running in 2007 and regularly finishes among the top five runners.

He said: "You can do all the training in the world but on the day you don't know how you're going to do as outside factors, such as the weather, can have an impact.

"I'm aiming to be back at about 10.30am to 11am, so in about five or six hours but, again, it all depends on the day.

"I would just tell people to just enjoy it."

South Cumbria Superintendent Rob O'Connor is also part of the team of the 16 doing the K2B.

He said he did it three times as a youngster and again two years ago.

The senior officer said he was cajoled into doing the walk by PC Edwards.

He said: "I'm doing it because I was put under peer pressure and the fact previous superintendents complete it. So, I feel obliged to do it this year.

"There is no doubt it is a fantastic event and raises hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity. The pain and suffering is worth it for a just cause."
