TWO men involved in a violent altercation were today being cared for at Furness General Hospital.

Police were called to Dalton at 8pm on Thursday June 22 following reports a man had been attacked with an axe.

The 46-year-old man suffered life threatening injuries and was today fighting for life.

A second man, aged 42, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He also suffered injuries during the incident and is also currently in Furness General Hospital.

An axe has been seized by police.

Detective Inspector Helen Curme said: “We are working hard to establish what exactly has happened.

"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time, and I would like to reassure the public that it is not being treated as terrorism related.

“I would ask that anyone with information that could help the investigation should please get in touch and let us know.”
