Voters in Cumbria have taken to Twitter to express their gratitude towards the work of local politicians after Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered in Birstall, Leeds.

Copeland MP Jamie Reed, Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock and Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron, who is also the MP for Westmorland & Lonsdale, all received tweets praising the work that they do in their constituencies.

Thousands of online users across the country tweeted with the hashtag of #ThankYourMP, which started trending last night after Mrs Cox's death.

Here are a selection of some of the tweets sent to MPs in Furness and the South Lakes:

James Titcombe, who exposed baby deaths at Furness General hospital after his own son Joshua, died in 2008, at nine-days-old, from a serious infection which midwives repeatedly failed to spot, also thanked Cumbrian MPs for their help during the ordeal.

Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats sent out this tweet this morning urging people to believe in the values of democracy:
