A CREATIVE school community brought a colorful carnival to the streets of Barrow.

Pupils, staff and parents pulled out all the stops to make Brisbane Park Infant School's 10th annual carnival a show stopper.

The magic of musicals was the theme, and youngsters got all dressed up as the characters from stage and screen.

Green was the order of the day for Reception class as they portrayed Shrek the Musical, while Year Two reflected the classic musical about a flying vintage racing car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

There was bright sunshine for this year's carnival, but as it has often rained on carnival days of the past, Year One opted to take on a Singin' in the Rain theme.

The creative bunched were even able to transform some shopping trolleys - provided by Tesco Extra- into props for the parade, such as the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car.

PCSOs and a Barrow Fire service were also on hand to support the parade. Former pupil, Joseph Chubb, now 16, was back to help with the carnival. He assisted last year while on work experience and returned for the tenth carnival. Parents, and past parents also supported the event.

The parade on Thursday morning was followed by the classes performing dance routes, accompanied by the school choir.

The carnival is the culmination of arts week at Brisbane Park. The events also include literacy activities and even cooking related to the musicals theme.

Cheryl Hagen, who coordinates the arts across the school, said: "It was a wonderful day. Events like this give children the chance to shine, they are spectacular.

"It's also a fun way to involve parents and the community. People come out of their houses to see the parade.

"Performing Singin' in the Rain kept the rain away this year."
