A PAIR of creative talents who teamed up to create an illustrative children's book have met their cash target to publish it after a last-minute rush of pledges.

Author Amy Stretch-Parker, 40, a community arts project manager from Askam and illustrator Kate Brunksill, 32, an illustrative artist and print maker from Ulverston, set up a kickstarter fund, aiming to reach £3,800.

The self-published book, called Peter Digs a Den, aims to encourage children to set themselves goals that they can achieve and to encourage parents to have more trust in their children.

Miss Parker said that pledges only started to roll in the last 24 hours before the kickstarter was due to finish.

Miss Parker said: "Right at the end everyone started to pledge, it is pretty amazing to get there.

"On the Friday night, with 24 hours to go until the finish we met the target. I texted Kate, then I told my family, then I cried and then I drank a bottle of wine."

In total they managed to raise £4,371, nearly £500 over their original pledge.

Now the real work starts. The pair are frantically working on creating the book, contacting local distributors and planning the launch.

The book will be launched at an event at The Coronation Hall in October.

Miss Parker said: "I had intended on being at Furness Tradition at the time the kickstarter ended and was either going to celebrate or commiserate there but as it happened, there was a train strike so we went out in Askam instead."
