THE owners of a Barrow business that had decorative swords and knives stolen during a break-in are sleeping in their shop after hearing that it was to be targeted again.

Discount Corner, in Dalton Road, was broken into sometime during the early hours of Sunday morning. The goods stolen included decorative samurai swords and knives, which are blunt-edged, and smoking implements such as e cigarettes.

Owners Alan and Linda Pye said items valued at around £800 were stolen after someone threw a brick through the shop window.

The couple have now had a new alarm system fitted, improved CCTV is in place inside and outside the shop and the window is being replaced, all costing the Pyes more than £1,000.

The Pyes slept in the shop on Monday evening as they heard that the shop is to be targeted again.

There were no further issues on Monday, but the Pyes said they would sleep in the shop again.

The owners said they have shared a name of a suspect with the police and informed the police that they believe the shop is to be hit again.

They said they have had windows smashed three times in around 12 months, with thefts on two occasions.

Mrs Pye said they were prepared to sleep on the premises again.

She said: "We are not going to sit back and just let them smash the other window."

Cumbria Police said they continue to investigate the crime.

Mr Pye set up Barrow's first discount store in the former Forshaw Street. Discount Corner sells items from toiletries and hardware to toys.
