HUNDREDS of members have signed up to a new live music club which has been granted the seal of approval to serve alcohol at its town centre venue.

Barrow Underground Music Society (BUMS) was set up at the end of last year to offer music lovers to sign up for free membership to attend exclusive gigs and events at its Carlisle Street venue.

Last month the society submitted an application for a premises licence which has now been approved by Barrow Borough Council.

No live music will be played or created after 2am and all volumes will be reduced at 2am.

The club is permitted to sell alcohol and put on live music seven days a week, from 11am until 2am Sunday to Wednesday, from 11am until 3am on Thursday and from 11am until 4am on Friday and Saturdays.

Events scheduled to run in October will take place between 7pm and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

In an update emailed to those who have applied to be members, club leaders Graham Newby and Rob Dunphy said a total of 448 people had signed up so far.

"Well done everyone Barrow Borough Council has backed #BUMS by granting us permission to run as an official private members club," the email said.

"Now we can concentrate on what we all do best and bring some of the finest vibes, musicians and DJ's to our hand-crafted venue.

"Your membership cards have been designed and will be ready for collection on the 7th of October. We currently have 448 members and we will be emailing each of you individually to provide you with your personal membership number (which you will need on your first visit).

"Our good friends and close neighbours Street Food Barrow have created a BUMS Bar Snacks menu that will be available during every event until 10pm.

"We know that October's events are all going to be very popular so please make sure you come down early to guarantee entry."

October's events, which will all be free entry to members, include performances by the Sugarfoot DJs, The Mooncats, Valparaiso, Zoo-ology, Paloma Cafe and Twang DJs.

An opening cabaret night will take place on Saturday October 7 from 7pm.
