A CONTROVERSIAL application to build almost 150 houses on greenfield land between Dalton and Barrow has been rejected by Barrow Borough Council.

In a planning meeting at Barrow Town Hall, councillors voted unanimously against the proposal by Oakmere Homes to build 142 new homes on land close to Dalton Lane, Barrow.

The council received 85 letters of objection from angry residents who were concerned about the impact that the development would have on their livelihoods.

It is unknown whether Oakmere Homes, who planned to build on land covering 12.47 hectares, will appeal against the decision made by Barrow Borough Council.
