URGENT building repairs to a GP surgery in Barrow are continuing to cause disruption to patient appointments.

Building inspectors ordered work must be carried out to the front of  Abbey Road Surgery , in Abbey Road,  Barrow , as well as within two consulting rooms, as soon as possible following their visit last week.

But patients at the town practice are now being warned the on-going repairs are likely to take several weeks.

A number of different venues are expected to be used for appointments until the property is deemed fit for purpose once more.

While the reception will remain open at Abbey Road Surgery , along with two treatment rooms, some patients will be seen at Murray's Pharmacy, in Friars Lane and the Atkinson Health Centre, in Market Street .

Patients will still see their normal doctor but will be told which location to attend when they make their appointment.

Anyone who has already made an appointment before the problem was discovered will be contacted by surgery staff.

Abbey Road Surgery Practice Manager Janet May said: "We are very grateful to patients who have coped with the disruption, and to our colleagues in Barrow who have offered us alternative accommodation.

"The support has been very much appreciated."

Mrs May added patients should still use the main telephone number on 01229 821 599 to make appointments - with the surgery open for people to collect prescriptions.
