A FUNDRAISING mum from Barrow who has worked tirelessly to raise With video: South Cumbria coffee mornings raise funds for cancer charity money for a cancer charity in memory of her son added more than £1,000 to the pot from a coffee morning.

Jo-Ann Ellis, 38, from Barrow, has raised almost £150,000 for the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group after her son Jake died aged five from a rare form of cancer in 2008.

She hosted a coffee morning on Friday September 30 and managed to raise £1,160 on what would have been Jake's 13th birthday.

Mrs Ellis said: "I am over the moon. We managed to sell all of the cakes and we were overwhelmed by the attendance.

"It made it special that it was on Jake's Birthday but it was still very emotional. I was proud of myself for going through with it because it just made the day a little bit more bearable and this was something he would have enjoyed."

She now plans to surpass the £200,000 mark with more fundraising activities. Mrs Ellis added: "If I can help one child it makes me feel better about the future of our children's children."
