THE North West Air Ambulance was called to the Coast Road after a motorcyclist skidded off the road.

The incident happened at 1.30pm today on the A5087 between the pitch and putt golf course and the junction with Long Lane at Goadsbarrow.

A motorcyclist, aged in his 60s and from Barrow, is understood to have left the road after a collision involving a Dacia car.

The motorcyclist's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed to allow oil to be cleared from the carriageway but has since reopened.

The motorcyclist was taken by road ambulance to Furness General Hospital.
