CHILDREN have helped a Barrow church create its biggest Bible stories exhibition this Easter.

Youngsters from nine Furness schools and many Rainbow, Brownie and church groups made art displays featuring some 40 stories from the Bible for Trinity Church Centre, in Barrow.

The artworks and 3D models exhibited at the Abbey Road centre included The Last Supper by St James' CE Junior School, The Creation by St George's CE Nursery and Primary School and Biblical symbols by Greengate Junior School.

Also depicting Bible stories were Victoria Infant and Nursery School, Victoria Academy, Roose Primary School, St Paul's CE Junior School, Vickerstown Primary School and Yarlside Academy.

The children also took part in arts and crafts sessions when they visited the centre, which was hosting the event for a third year.

Brian Whittaker, from Trinity Church said: "The children contributed to a truly wonderful exhibition of around 40 Bible stories which showed the artistic and inventive skills of the children to portray a variety of Bible stories using a wide range of materials.

"During the week-long exhibition, some 350 children from eight schools visited. They spent some time viewing the exhibition with the assistance of church helpers, and then had refreshments in the lounge and a chance to engage in many craft activities."

Mr Whittaker said it was great that Roose and Greengate schools were still able to manage to walk to the church for the exhibition despite the rain on those days.

He said the the feedback has been exceptional with the event being child focused.

St James' CE Junior School created The Last Supper and empty tomb models and a display around a big foot and ideas, based on Jesus washing the feet of the disciples.

Victoria Bennett, assistant headteacher at St James' CE Junior School said: "This is the third year we have been involved in the exhibition. Our Year Three and Year Four children took part and they absolutely love it."
