A SECTION of the A590 has been closed due to fears of falling rocks hitting cars, it has been confirmed.
The inside lane of the east-bound carriageway approaching Greenodd roundabout has been cordoned off following an incident in September.
Rock debris from the wooded embankment alongside the carriageway rolled into the inside lane.
No vehicles were involved, but Highways England has confirmed that it immediately closed the section as a precautionary measure and has been monitoring the situation since.
No date has been set for it to be re-opened.
A Highways England spokesman said: "It looks as if we will need to do some work along the embankment to make it more secure but that will need geo-technical investigations which we are currently planning.
"The safety of road users is our top priority and we won’t re-open lane-one until we are confident the risk of drivers striking debris is removed.
"The closure is not causing any delays but we’re working to tackle the issue as speedily as possible."
