SOME of the area's leading firms are heading to the capital to help put Cumbrian businesses on the map.

A diverse delegation of 17 business bosses will travel to London to showcase the area's growing economy.

Furness firms such as Sillfield Farm Foods, Cumbrian Cow Ice Cream and Wax Lyrical are just some of the businesses who will be joining local MPs John Woodcock, Jamie Reed and Tim Farron for Cumbria Day.

The event has been organised by Cumbrian MPs and is being sponsored by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership to achiever greater influence with central government and to encourage further investment and commitment to the county's flourishing industries.

Director of Cumbria LEP Graham Haywood hopes the event will help showcase everything Cumbria has to offer.

He said: "Cumbria Day is a prime opportunity for us to show the rest of the country and the heart of government the breadth of economic activity, business growth and success being attained here.

"It’s been very hard for each of our MPs to select only two or three businesses each to attend for their own constituency. There are so many others which deserve a mention and the event is a great way to celebrate enterprise and business achievement."

Some of the area's biggest employers are also backing the scheme through the marketing initiative Choose South Cumbria - a coalition of some of the biggest employers to help promote the county as the ultimate place of choice to work, live, learn and play.

Luke Dicicco, project manager for Choose Cumbria, said: "The event gives Cumbria a unique opportunity to shout about what it has to offer. Choose Cumbria is delighted to be involved to help tell this story, because the county is more widely known for its stunning natural landscape than its growing business prowess."
