A MEMBER of a school's pastoral team who has been described as one of the "best and kindest people ever" has received the Evening Mail's Bouquet of the Week.

Julie Ashton works at St Bernard's Catholic High School in Rating Lane, in Barrow, and was nominated for the award by 15-year-old Jess McSkimmings.

Mrs Ashton has offered pupils at the school support and has been a valued member of the team for four years.

She was surprised by the special flowers at the school on Wednesday afternoon with a visit from Jess, who has recently finished her GCSE exams.

Speaking after receiving the bouquet, Mrs Ashton said: "I'm just absolutely delighted, I had no idea.

"I was thrilled when I got the flowers from Jess."

In her nomination, Jess said: "She has supported me so much through my years at secondary school. She has helped me gain confidence.

"She's always been there for me since I started St Bernard's and she is one of the best and kindest people I've ever met."
