THE family of a Barrow man who was allegedly murdered will now be able to lay him to rest.

Guy Hamilton, 35, died on April 30 after he was found outside his home in Meetings View, Barrow, with serious injuries. A 44-year-old Barrow man, Damien Hill, has appeared in court charged with murder.

Because of legal procedure, Mr Hamilton's family had been unable to finalise plans for his funeral, but the Evening Mail understands his relatives have now been informed that the body can be released, allowing them to finally lay him to rest.

Meanwhile, almost £1,000 has been raised by the community to help pay for the service.

Residents in Ormsgill have rallied round in a bid to pay tribute to the much-loved community stalwart, with a candle-lit vigil continuing to mark one of his favourite spots outside the shops in Middlefield.

A series of fundraising events has taken place to raise money to help pay for Mr Hamilton's funeral, the final details of which are yet to be announced. The Tally Ho pub in Schneider Road has so far raised £542.74 thanks to a dog walk and collection buckets at the bar, a car boot sale generated £21.40 and a JustGiving page has attracted pledges coming to £425.

Stacey Jepson after completing the Keswick to Barrow Mum-of-four Stacey Jepson completed Saturday's Keswick to Barrow in memory of her "Guydian Angel" friend.

Miss Jepson, 29, of Island Road, Barrow Island, reached the finish line at around 9.30pm and has announced she will take part again next year to raise money for Animal Refuge.

Proudly declaring she completed the challenge "for Guy", Miss Jepson revealed she had suffered with a number of injuries along the way but was determined to make it to the end, even managing to run at times.

Before the walk, Miss Jepson said: "I've had no training whatsoever, other than taking my dog for a walk every day. It's crazy but he was crazy and this is exactly the sort of thing he would do."

A charity fundraiser is set to take place on Saturday at the Tally Ho pub with live music and entertainment from 8pm until 2am. Entry is free and donations are welcome.
