BIG-HEARTED walkers are being sought to raise money for charity in Barrow.

The British Heart Foundation's annual Barrow/Walney Walk will take place on Sunday October 2.

The charity is looking for walkers from across south Cumbria to get involved in either the five-mile or 12-mile walks

The walks start from 11am at the Dock Museum in Barrow.

The money raised will go towards the BHF’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal which is taking the fight to people suffering from heart failure. The BHF has funded £25m into this regenerative research across the UK and scientists say that they are now within touching distance of seeing results that will reverse the damage to the heart through a heart attack, damage that was once understood to be permanent.

The event is being organised by the BHF Barrow Fundraising Group - volunteers who have come together to help sign up participants and promote this popular walk.

Furness Building Society are sponsoring the event.

Barbara Dunn, BHF fundraising manager for Lancashire and South Lakes, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has already registered for this popular walk and for getting involved in such a fantastic event, also to the Furness Building Society for sponsoring the walk once again.

“To think that we are in reach to be able to turn back time for people living with the devastating effects of heart failure is fantastic - but we are not there yet - we still need to carry on raising money so the scientists can carry on with their amazing work.”

For more information about the event or to register to take part in the walk, contact Mrs Dunn on 07710 195837, email dunnb@bhf.org.uk or
