A WOMAN who was caught driving an eight-year-old girl while three times over the legal alcohol limit is due to be sentenced.

Pamela McCormick, 43, of Abbey Road in Barrow, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

A police report heard how McCormick was spotted driving erratically and narrowly missed a number of collisions before she was eventually stopped by police near Crooklands roundabout.

Mr Lee Dacre, prosecuting, said: "A police report says how the officer spotted a Honda Civic driving down Park Road and crossing the central lines of the carriageway.

"When approaching the Askam roundabout, the vehicle then indicated left as though it was going to Askam, then indicated right and sharply turned and indicated left again before proceeding down the Dalton bypass."

The car then continued down the bypass at an approximate speed of 60mph where it narrowly missed a collision with a Mercedes.

As the Mercedes tried to overtake, the Honda then increased its speed until it was travelling above the legal limit of 60mph.

The car then approached the Crooklands roundabout where it missed hitting a barrier near the zoo before continuing on its way towards Ulverston.

The police  car then illuminated its lights but didn't think the car would stop.

The Honda then mounted the pavement and suddenly stopped.

Mr Dacre continued: "Police approached the car and in the front passenger seat - not even the back - the front passenger seat - there was a young female eight years of age.

"McCormick was driving at high speeds in excess of 60mph and narrowly missed colliding with another vehicle, a barrier before  mounting the pavement.

"The officer was shocked by the incident and the significant risk of causing an accident."

McCormick pleaded guilty to the offence and received an immediate interim driving ban before she faces Preston Crown Court for sentencing tomorrow.
