A 40-year-old woman told police she would bite off their noses and faces, a court heard.

Rachel Sandra Jones became aggressive when officers came to arrest a man she was with at an address in Harrison Street, Barrow.

Prosecutor Mrs Andrew Travis told Furness Magistrates' Court that police went to the town centre address at 11.15pm on May 7.

He said: "They went to arrest a man and the defendant was present. She took exception to them coming to the house and tried to stop them taking the man.

"She had to be restrained by officers and began shouting and swearing. They took the man outside and she followed and continued to shout.

"She was told to go back inside on several occasions but refused. She then shouted that she was going to bite their noses off and then said she was going to bite their faces off.

"They arrested her and she said 'okay, I'm sorry. Will you let me go now?'"

Jones pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Defence solicitor Mr Michael Graham said: "Initially there was a problem with the police entering the premises. She objected to this and the male being arrested.

"She wanted to know why he was being arrested. She was asked several times to desist with her behaviour and ended up being arrested herself."

Jones, of Raglan Court, Barrow, was fined £50 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
