A WOMAN is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after she fell from a building in Barrow.

A 39-year-old woman from Barrow, who has been named locally as Tanya Slee, fell from the roof of a two storey residential property in Greengate Street, Barrow, yesterday evening .

Paramedics and police were called to the scene of the incident, near to the junction with School Street, and she was rushed to Furness General Hospital for urgent treatment with suspected head injuries.

A woman, who lives nearby in Greengate Street but did not want to be named, said: "The first we heard about it was from the police when they turned up. The ambulance car came a little while after I think.

"I can't imagine what's gone on but it's scary for everybody.

"I hope she gets better."

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesman said: "Police can confirm that they were called at 6.38pm to reports that a female had fallen from the roof of a property on Greengate Street, Barrow.

"The 39-year-old was taken to Furness General Hospital."

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to the scene to treat the woman and took her to the Barrow hospital, describing her injuries as "serious" at the time.
