SHOPPERS were put at risk after a suspected arsonist set fire to the store room of a Barrow town centre shop.

Police are investigating after a fire broke out in the rear storage area of Clinton Cards, in Portland Walk. The alarm was raised on Sunday October 15 around 4.15pm.

The suspect is believed to have gained access to the unsecured store room and proceeded to set waste cardboard alight. At this time there is no evidence that an accelerant was used.

The fire was extinguished before it spread to the main shop, however, damage was caused to the storage area's wooden door.
