A BARROW town centre shop which opened less than three years ago has closed down.

The Premier convenience store at the bottom end of Dalton Road, opposite the Derby pub, closed down towards the end of last week.

The Premier shop opened in Dalton Road in Christmas 2013. Some £200,000 was spent to buy the building and refurbish the store.

It was run by Kerb Retail – a convenience store retailer across the North West – working in partnership with national brand Premier.

The business employed three full-time members of staff and two part-time.

Lee Black, Kerb Retail director, said when it opened that the company has looked at another premises in the Barrow area and that could potentially open some time next year.

He said in 2013: “We want to bring the lowest prices to customers in Barrow. We believe it should all be about price.

“I like Barrow and the Barrow people. This is our first one in Cumbria, although we have numerous ones elsewhere.

“But we are looking at Cumbria and Barrow as an area we want to expand into and create employment.

“It’s about bringing the cheapest prices we can to the local community.”
