A TEACHER is overwhelmed with the amount of donations she has received to take with her on a mission to Africa.

Barrow teacher Stephanie Noblet who will be working with Primary School children in Zambia. JON GRANGER Stephanie Noblet, of Barrow, will travel to Zambia this month to teach at the James Corboy School in Mazabuka.

The 29-year-old qualified drama teacher put an appeal on Facebook asking for any donations of children's clothing, shoes and toys to take out with her to the primary school.  She now has piles of items and also cash donations which will be spent on buying school equipment and uniforms in Zambia.

Miss Noblet received so many donations that some of the items were to be sold to generate some more funds for the equipment and resources.

There have been a number of fundraising events for Miss Noblet's appeal including hundreds of pounds being raised through St Mary's Catholic Church and The Strawberry Hotel in Barrow.

The former business manager is going out to Zambia through the Religious Sisters of the Holy Spirit.

Miss Noblet will be in the country for at least three months, but perhaps longer.

She said: "I have been inundated with items, it is really touching.

"The people of Barrow have been so generous, they always come together to support appeals.

"I have always wanted to do something like this, ever since I was a child. "Now seems like the right time to do this.

"I'm passionate about education. A lot of the children out there don't make it out of the hospital from birth, 85 per cent of population have HIV. "This is a perfect way to give something back to the children who do make it to school by helping with their education.

"I'm very excited about teaching the children. It will be a life changing experience.

"My cousin from Garstang has been out there for just a few weeks and he said I will be overwhelmed with how much the experience changes you."

Miss Noblet is looking into doing some live video blogs with the school to possibly some local schools.
