A SCHOOL in Barrow has encouraged its pupils to send Christmas shoeboxes to help deprived children in Eastern Europe.
Year One pupils at Dane Ghyll School wrapped 150 boxes filled with toys, sweets and essentials to allow less fortunate youngsters to enjoy Christmas.
The schoolchildren were inspired by Year One teacher Vicki Noble, who ran a special assembly to tell pupils about her visit to the Romanian City of Orodea in the summer where she helped to provide much needed shelter and food.
Headteacher Caron Reynolds said: "This appeal is a fantastic way of making our own children aware of how lucky they are and how children around the world are less fortunate."
