SPECIAL "breakfast booster" revision sessions are setting Furness students up to do their very best in their exams.

Year 11 students across the area are knuckling down to serious revision across the subjects for their GCSEs throughout May and June.

And at Furness Academy in Barrow, the 15 and 16-year-olds are utilising after school classes, booster revision sessions with subject leaders before each exam and also holiday clinics.

Students who have morning exams attend breakfast booster sessions, where toast, pieces of fruit, and fruit juice is provided. This is a relaxed time and a chance for students to ask any last questions.

Deputy head girl, Courtney Morrow, 16, said: "As this is such an important time in my life, I have felt thoroughly supported by the staff and other students at Furness Academy. The period seven after-school classes, boosters and holiday clinic run by the teachers have been incredibly helpful."

Helen Robinson, Furness Academy's assistant headteacher, said: "We understand the importance of this period in the lives of our young adults.

"It is our responsibility to ensure they are as prepared as they can be for their GCSE examinations.

"Revision is clearly a key part of this and we provide numerous revision opportunities for our students, including period seven classes, after-school and holiday clinics in each of the school term breaks.

"Our most successful revision opportunity is our boosters. These take place before each examination and are led by the subject teacher. It’s just a quick chance for teachers to pass on key information for our students to take into their exams and a chance for our students to ask any last-minute questions. During this time, we look to settle their nerves and reassure our students they do know the information, we wish them the best of luck and remind them we are very proud of them.

"If these boosters take place before a morning examination, our students are also provided with breakfast to ensure they do not start an exam on an empty stomach as we are aware breakfast is the most important meal of the day."
