A BARROW man who smashed up his mother's possessions and assaulted a police officer has been sentenced to community service.

Jordan Louis Trelore, 22, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on Wednesday September 27 charged with assault by beating, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

District Judge Gerald Chalk was told how in a drunken state Trelore went to his mother's address and became aggressive and violent.

Mr Peter Kelly, prosecuting, said: "The defendant has assaulted his mother by pulling a clump of her hair and damaged her spectacles. He smashed a mirror, damaged a fireplace, damaged a door and broke a curtain pole."

When Trelore, of Winchester Street, was apprehended Judge Chalk was told he kicked towards the arresting officer.

Mr Kelly continued: "The defendant said he could not remember having drunk eight pints of lager. He said he was angry and emotional after a relationship with a partner ended. He said that he was sorry."

Mr Andrew Gibson, defending, said his client was a changed man since his last conviction in 2014.

He said: "He is growing up and is learning to do what has to be done."

Trelore pleaded guilty to all three charges.

He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work for the assault, 150 hours for the criminal damage, and 150 hours for assaulting a police officer. These sentences will run concurrently.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the police officer and an £85 victim surcharge.
