A CONVICTED sex offender from Barrow has been jailed after pleading guilty to attacking hospital staff.

Lee Michael Deelay, of Middle Hill, Barrow, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday where he admitted three offences – assault, using threatening words or behaviour and committing an offence while subject to a suspended sentence.

The court heard Deelay had assaulted Damien Butler at Furness General Hospital and used threatening words or behaviour towards Sarah Tammer on September 13.

In 2009, Deelay was jailed for 12 months and put on the sex offenders' register for 10 years after being convicted of two counts of sexual assault. He was also required to attend the police station once a year.

In May the 30-year-old was given a nine-week suspended sentence and electronically tagged for seven weeks after he admitted failing to comply with notification requirements of the sex offenders' register between December 14, 2015 and January 14. He was due to make a periodic notification at a police station but failed to do so.

At court yesterday, he was jailed for a total of 13 weeks. Magistrates said the offences justified a jail term because it happened at night on hospital premises and Deelay was drunk at the time.
