A BARROW school has honoured its Class of 2017 with celebrations and prizes.

The Greengate Junior School community staged a series of leaving celebration events for its Year Six pupils.

Last week Year Six class put on a funny assembly for parents, then on Wednesday evening this week Greengate Juniors had a leaving party for the pupils who are heading the secondary school in September.

The disco event included the 48 Year Six pupils showing their strong bond when they demonstrated some line dance to Billy Ray Cyrus.

All the staff attended and parents came in for group photos with teachers and pupils. They had a lovely buffet, provided by Bosun's Locker, and Dan Hayes did the disco.

Yesterday Greengate Junior School held an emotional final assembly and prizegiving, with 240 pupils and about 100 parents.

Paula Hillman, the deputy head at Greengate Junior School, congratulated the fantastic Year Six pupils.

Mrs Hillman said: "They have bonded as a group and have also produced excellent academic results. We are so proud of them."
