Needle dumped near Raglan Court, Barrow. She added that where they lived in the Salthouse area needles were constantly strewn around the streets and in play areas.

The angry mum, who has snapped shots of the discarded items on her mobile, added: "There are a lot of families around here and it is a real family area. More and more druggies are moving in and it's just becoming really, really dirty. We are seeing needles on the streets and see junkies when we go to and from school.

"I think what the police are doing is great but the timing with children going to school might have been a bit off as we don't really want them seeing such things.

"There are more and more smackheads moving into the area all of the time.

"There are heroin needles just left on the streets when they have been used, which is hell when you have young children who want to play out.

"It's happening all the time."

Local resident Brian Hudson. LEANNE BOLGER Brian Hudson, 64, who lives on Salthouse Road, was in agreement adding that the electricity sub station near his home was a major dumping ground for used needles.

He said: "I have lived around here all my life and never known it as bad as it is now. We have a lot of young kids locally and it's near a school. It's just bringing the area down. You can see them around when mums are taking their children to and from school.

"They just dump needles anywhere.

"It's good to see the police are doing something about the problems we have."

Mandy Anderson, who is the chairperson of Raglan Street Tenants and Residents' Association said: "It's just a nightmare. We have a pot of money to spent on the area organising events for locals but we can't because of what is going on. They are really bringing the area down. We have a lot of families and it is a real community and we don't need this.

"We have been putting up with it for a while now and I'm pleased to see the police carrying out raids in Barrow.

"It's good to see something being done."
