ONE lucky Barrow nursery pupil hit the jackpot when she made an ultra-rare Red Nose Day find.

Lynwood Day Nursery has been busy selling Red Nose Day merchandise to support the national fundraising effort organised by Comic Relief.

The very first red nose bought at the Hollow Lane nursery was not red but an extra special silver coloured Frankinose.

Red Noses come in sealed bags and people have a 1 in 900 chance of finding a Frankinose character. Those who find one can unlock some extra special content on the Comic Adventure, a digitised Comic Relief comic strip.

Autumn Abernethy, 10, bought a red nose for her little sister Iris McKell, three, and they discovered a Frankinose in the bag.

Little Iris is now the envy of her fellow pupils sporting her special Frankinose.

Vikki Caskie, lead practitioner at Lynwood Day Nursery, said: "The first red nose we sold turned out to be a Frankinose.

"It was a very nice surprise for Iris and Autumn.

"All the children want a Frankinose now."

The nursery is also selling Red Nose Day pens and the children are making Red Nose Day themed cakes all week and selling them to parents.

Nursery owners Diane and Keith Shereston will match the funds raised when the final donation is made to Comic Relief.

Red Nose Day 2017 takes place this Friday. Schools, groups and businesses around the area will be holding various fundraising activities.

Red Nose Day is held every two years and raises money to make a difference to the lives of thousands of people across Africa and the UK who are facing terrible injustice or living in desperate poverty. It culminates in a night of comedy and moving documentary films on BBC One.

In 2015 Red Nose Day raised a whopping £99,418,831 and it has raised more than £1bn in the past 30 years since it was established in 1988.
