Photographic creativity from all angles was shown off as artists gathered for a competition and exhibition of their work.

Members of Barrow Digital Photography Club hosted this year's South Lakeland Knockout Competition in early April. The club won the coveted prize last year and was successful in retaining the trophy for 2016.

The event was attended by members from the six participating photography clubs: Holme, Ulverston, Barrow, Trimpell, Lunesdale and Lancaster.

With plenty of stunning photographs from all entrants the competition was fierce and when Barrow club members claimed their victory over Holme in the final, it was by just 10 votes.

Each club entered 16 of their best images. These images had been whittled down from a vast number of entries from club members. The standard of work was extremely high with six entries in black and white and 10 in colour. Eight of the images were digitally projected and eight judged as prints, framed and mounted on the walls in an exhibition style. Entries varied from the wild animals of the African savanna to personal human portraits, making for a very eclectic collection.

Carole Palmer, 53, a nurse and member of Barrow Photography Club, was thrilled to be a part of the competition. She said: "I've only been a member for a year, so I was delighted when we won the competition. The evening went really well, so to win the competition as well was the icing on the cake."

The evening was full of lively discussion and was an impressive display of local talent. A special presentation was also made to well known local photographer Ian McDonald, who founded the competition. All societies came together to thank Mr McDonald for his role in promoting local artists and for his contribution to the South Lakeland photographic community.
