A NURSERY where "all children make good progress" and children are "at the heart of everything" has been praised as good across the board.

Ofsted judged Chetwynde Kindergarten, in Barrow, to be good in all areas during a recent inspection.

The nursery for three and four-year-olds, is based on the Chetwynde School site, in Rating Lane, but it is a private company.

The report says: "Key persons are devoted and caring. Their positive praise, continual encouragement and tailored support help children to become independent learners who show high levels of self-confidence."

Laura Fox, the manager of Chetwynde Kindergarten said: "We are really, really pleased with the report, which reflects all the hard work that goes on here.

"It is a fantastic report. The inspector said that our children are confident, happy and settled."

Inspectors said staff are well qualified, they use their good knowledge of how children learn, and information from accurate observations and assessments, to plan for children's future learning. The education watchdog said this contributes towards all children making good progress.

The report noted that children are "motivated and enthusiastic learners" and they have access to appealing and safe environments where they are inspired to play, learn and develop.

Inspectors said: "purposeful enhancements", such as the addition of an outdoor classroom, fully support those children who prefer to learn in the fresh air.

The inspectors said there were good partnerships with parents with staff using effective strategies to keep parents informed of their children's learning and progress. The nursery was said to provide many opportunities to help parents extend their children's learning at home.

The report says managers and leaders aspire to improve and they motivate all staff to help them adopt a clear and focused vision.

Ofsted said: "This nursery places children at the heart of everything they do," and detailed evaluations of practice are "very clearly focused on helping to ensure that children have access to high-quality care and learning."

The nursery has full time and part time places available.
