A DRUNK mum from Barrow who attacked a bouncer with her shoe and spat in his face has avoided jail.

Chloe Morgan, 26, of Cavendish Street, was found guilty of assaulting Stuart Hide, who works as a member of door staff at the Barrow Arms pub in Cavendish Street, in court yesterday.

Lee Dacre, prosecuting, told the court that the 26-year-old had been kicked out of the pub after an altercation before threatening to glass Mr Hide and bite his nose off.

She then struck the victim on the back of the head with her shoe and spat at him as she continued to be aggressive towards door staff for 10 minutes.

Mr Hide sustained no injuries as a result of the attack, however, Morgan, who fell to the floor when she was ejected from the pub, had to be treated at Furness General Hospital after scratching the cornea of her eye.

Michael Graham, defending, said: "When she was ejected she was pushed to the ground quite forcibly so she takes her wedges off and remonstrates with the doorman. She did have a falling out with the doorman but cannot remember spitting at him but she understands that if it was alleged by the doorman and others then that must be the case.

"The shoes were not used intentionally as a weapon. She had an injury to her ankle so she took the shoes off to relieve the pressure on her feet."

Morgan, who the court heard has a four-year-old son and seven previous convictions, was warned about her behaviour by presiding magistrate Chris Harris as he gave her a final chance to cut down on alcohol.

He said: "It was a sustained attack for 10 minutes during which you used a shoe as a weapon and spat at someone who was doing their public duty.

"You would usually go into custody but the court will suspend this sentence to give you an opportunity to prove to us that you can actually improve your terrible behaviour. If you don't deal with your booze problem it is obvious what you are going to get next time."

Morgan was given a prison sentence of 12 weeks, suspended for 18 months. She was also ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work and to pay the victim £175 compensation.
