A BARROW mum has done the "impossible" by winning a family holiday for five thanks to a nationwide competition by crisps giant Walkers.

Leanne Snow, 37, will take her husband and her three children to Majorca next year after entering codes from 48 packets of crisps and spelling out the name of the popular Balearic island to bag the holiday.

Mrs Snow, a housewife, said: "I was very surprised that I won, I only decided to do it for a laugh.

"I get the crisps anyway to give to my kids for their school lunches and I was only collecting the codes for a couple of weeks before I won.

"At the beginning I got quite a few of the letters that I needed and I was just waiting for a C so I went through all the packets that had been left on the side by the kids and eventually I got what I needed."

The winning combination of letters allowed Mrs Snow to win a holiday for four but she asked if she could pay extra to allow all three of her children to go on the trip.

After consulting with Walkers, they agreed to put all five of them in a four-star hotel in Majorca for a week in May - provided that Mrs Snow paid an extra £14.25.

All of the 37-year-old's codes came from multipacks of Walkers.

The competition has been criticised by members of the public who claimed it was impossible to find the letters C, D and K to complete many of the spellings of popular destinations.

After more than 100 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority by consumers, the TV advert starring football star Gary Lineker has been pulled.

However, Mrs Snow, of Ainslie Street, who won one of 20,000 holidays on offer, says her win proves it is possible to scoop the top prizes.

She said: "There are a lot of people who don't play so there are loads of codes that could be winners that are just going to waste. The fact that I have won proves that the competition is not a con.

"People just need to carry on playing because you have got to be in it to win it, just like the lottery.

"I didn't go out of my way to buy the packets because we bought them anyway so this holiday really has cost me nothing.

"We have never been abroad together as a family so we are grateful to Walkers because without them we would never have been able to afford it."
