A MOTHER assaulted a police officer in order to protect her son from harm, a court heard.
Kayleigh Elizabeth Catherine Johnston, of Egerton Court, Barrow Island, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on July 27 where she pleaded guilty to two separate charges, assaulting a constable and obstructing a constable in the execution of duty.
Presiding magistrate Steve Sim said: "We realise you are very protective of your son but you can't go round assaulting officers.
"It was a reckless and silly thing to do."
Johnston was fined £50 for each offence and ordered to pay £50 compensation to each officer.
She must also pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
