A MAN from Barrow has appeared in court charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop after a crash, driving without insurance and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Callum Jake Wharton was charged after a two-vehicle crash in Friars Lane in Barrow on June 13 of this year.
A green Ford Focus had crashed into a silver Honda car, causing the Honda to hit a tree and a lamp post and then overturn.
The Honda driver, 53-year-old Ray Hayes, was treated for minor injures at Furness General Hospital.
Wharton, 21, of Greengate Street, Barrow, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court today charged with driving without insurance, driving while banned, failing to stop after a collision, failing to report a collision and intending to pervert the course of justice.
Because the fourth charge can only be heard in the crown court, Wharton's case will next be heard at Preston Crown Court on January 27.
