POLICE have launched an appeal after a man was attacked in the street by two assailants.

The 32-year-old Barrow man, who we have agreed not to name, was punched, kicked to the head and body and left on the ground after he was ambushed in Cavendish Street.

The attack happened between 11.30pm on Sunday night and 12.30am in the early hours of Monday morning, after the man had been on a night out.

He was walking along Cavendish Street, close to where it meets Dalton Road by Salvanas, when two men jumped on him from behind.

They punched their victim to the head before he fell to the ground, where he received kicks to the face and body.

He said: "I was on my own, I'd been out all day and night so was a bit worse for wear, and then I basically got ambushed from behind.

"There'd been a bit of trouble earlier in the day with someone but I didn't get a good enough look at the two lads who jumped me. I can only describe it as a vicious and unprovoked attack."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
