A BARROW man told police he would only leave his girlfriend's house in a body bag after setting two dogs on them.

Dean Samuel Bossio also threatened them with an iron bar after they found him hiding in a shed.

Mr Lee Dacre, prosecuting, told Furness Magistrates' Court how Bossio had gone to his on/off partner's home in Wasdale Grove, Barrow.

He said: "She called the police and asked them to remove him from the house. When they arrived he became aggressive and ran from the kitchen and hid in the shed. Then he set the dogs on them.

"He also had an iron bar in the shed and was making threats to the officers.

"He said he would only leave in a body bag. He picked up the iron bar and threatened to hit an officer. He also picked up a set of ladders to throw but put them down. He said to the officers that he would remember their faces and get them."

Mr Dacre told the court on Tuesday that Bossio, 31, of School Street, Barrow, had 29 convictions for 72 offences.

He admitted using threatening behaviour on January 24.

Defence solicitor Mr Michael Graham said: "He had had alcohol and had gone to see his on/off girlfriend. She said she didn't want him to stay.

"When the police came he left by the rear exit and went into the shed with the dogs. The dogs made a noise and alerted police to where he was and the dogs ran out. He just remembers being surrounded by police and more came as the incident went on. There was high-vis as far as the eye could see.

"He was emotional and extremely remorseful for his actions at the police station.

"He admits to binge drinking and says when he starts he can't stop and he has approached UNITY for help."

Bossio was given a 12-month community order with a 90-day curfew between 7pm and 7am. He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
